Tyler Nilson USA runtime: 1 Hour 37 Minutes release year: 2019 Without a biological family anymore, young adult Zak, with Down Syndrome, is housed against his own wishes in the only facility in the state open to him, the Britthayven Retirement Home in Richmond, Virginia, where his primary caregiver is a young, caring woman named Eleanor. On his third attempt with help from some of the elderly but nonetheless wily residents, Zak, who continually watches an old VHS tape of his favorite professional wrestler Salt Water Redneck, is able to escape from the home in his pursuit of traveling to Ayden, North Carolina to attend Salt Water's wrestling school he's seen advertised on that tape, his goal to become a pro wrestler. This dream is stronger with the many taunts over the course of his life that he would never achieve anything for being "retarded". Along the way, he encounters a young man named Tyler, who too is running away. Since the death of his older brother Mark, Tyler, who works for a boat shop in one of the river estuaries of the area, has lost his way, and has resorted to poaching blue crab traps to earn extra pocket money. In the process, he purposefully burns bridges with many working in the fishing or boating business in the area as he tries to get away to start life anew in Jupiter, Florida. Initially not wanting to have anything to do with Zak in dealing with his own flight, Tyler has a change of heart in finding that Zak is a fellow "outlaw", Tyler who vows to help Zak get to Ayden on his own way to Jupiter. The bond that forms between the two may give the other a different perspective on life, and may be broken by circumstances, including if their pursuers find them, Zak's being Eleanor, and Tyler's being two other fishers, Duncan and Ratboy, who will resort to violence to get their vigilante justice on Tyler if need be genre: Adventure

So i just watched the holes movie and when i saw him in the credits i was like... i cant believe that guy was stanley yelnats.

There was an old TV show with a Down Syndrome guy as the lead actor. Was it called Life Goes On or something? I remembered the theme song was Obladi-Oblada.

I'm glad I didn't see this when it came out. I would have enjoyed it, but not nearly as much. I watched it alone but clearly this is one to enjoy with family, and whether its family we choose or family we end up with, it's made pretty clear there's often little difference.
Now. As someone who never much liked him, whatever it is Mr. Labeouf is doing lately is working. So much so in fact, he's quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. This performance (along with Honey Boy) are absolutely good enough to generate Oscar "buzz. In fact, this movie deserves recognition for multiple categories, but for those who could care less about shiny statues from "the academy" Its simply a great movie. Its funny. It's emotional. Its interesting. It's all these things, and it was done right. Its no secret how delicate of a challenge a character like Zak can be (see RDJ in Tropic Thunder for explanation) and intentional or not, far too many movies come off as exploitative when approaching a condition like Down Syndrome. I won't pretend to know what it takes to perfectly handle that kind of challenge, all i know is I saw Zak as just one thing, an interesting character.
As far as criticisms, a couple things do come to mind, but really nothing major. A few parts are a little cheesy, but it's a family type film so it's kinda expected. Like two people traveling on foot through rough terrain and somehow making it look easy, maybe too easy? Or the classic coincidence when two people "from totally different worlds" are thrown together and are about the same age, one's male, other female, both incredibly good looking? Amazing odds!
Look, it's a damn good movie and these are unsettling times. For the people stuck inside, trying to agree on what to watch together? This one. Watch this one.

Shia, it's good seeing you bruh. “Whats rule number one?”. “party”. Ooooh, kinda intrigued by this movie now. I love heartfelt, sweet movies with characters who overcome challenges. I also take care of children with down syndrome, so this speaks close to my heart because of that as well. Plus I trust and respect Chriss opinion of movies greatly since discovering him.
